Elton John, English singer and songwriter was born - March 25, 1947

Elton Jon was born in a suburb of London on March 25, 1947. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, his musical career began at age 3 when the future pop star began playing the piano. His parents allowed his musical talents to flourish, even asking him to play at parties at 4 years old. At age nine, he found Elvis Presley and by age 11 was a devout listener of rock ‘n’ roll. Listening to Elvis Presley and Bill Haley and his comets, Reginald began attending the Royal Academy of Music, on scholarship, at age 11.

His career skyrocketed during the 1970’s with seven #1 records. Recognized as a leading force in pop music, Elton John is also known for his over the top performances and fashion sense. The pop star was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, knighted in 1998 - earning the title of Sir Elton John, and named #49 in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004.
