Einstein reveals his Theory of Relativity - April 11, 1905

On April 11, 1905 Albert Einstein released an article that changed the way humans view space and time forever. The article was ‘On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies’ and contained within it Einstein’s special theory of relativity. The beginnings of Einstein’s theory were developed by Galileo in the 17th Century. Galileo theorized that uniform motion was relative – a person could be standing still on a ship and not moving while someone watching from land would say he was moving. Einstein’s theory furthered this by stating that people will always measure the speed of light as the same, regardless of what their state of uniform liner motion is. The commonly known part of this theory is the mass-energy equivalence (E=mc²).

Many people, including himself, tried to disprove the theory which was surprising on many levels but mainly because it seemed to go against common sense. After numerous tests and trials, the theory was verified. Einstein is known widely as one of the greatest physicists ever. In 1921, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his theory of relativity but also for many other advances in theoretical physics.
